In 2012, the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland began a new educational initiative called Mi Dor Le Dor, (Heb: "From Generation to Generation") as a programmatic response to requests from young Jewish educators, tour guides and graduate students to learn Polish Jewish history in the very place where it developed over centuries. Because the transmission of Polish Jewish heritage, impossible to achieve under Communism, has left third- and fourth-generation Poles, today in their twenties and thirties, with little knowledge about the Polish Jewish experience, Mi Dor Le Dor teaches this history, tradition and culture as a living heritage with deep Polish roots.
This unique experiential learning program includes bi-weekly seminars with academic experts, site visits and field research, walking tours and skills training, with the goal of enhancing Jewish literacy, instilling cultural pride, and preparing participants to assist in the year-round Taube Jewish Heritage Tour Program. The next edition of Mi Dor Le Dor will begin in October 2012, expanding from the five-month pilot program to ten months and drawing participants from the Center's partner organizations all around the country. Community Research Project and Mi Dor Le Dor
The Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland's Community Project Research (CPR) introduces participants in the Mi Dor Le Dor program and the Taube Jewish Heritage Tour program to research in Polish Jewish history. The Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland offers access to the vast collections of its host organization, the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute, the Jewish Genealogy & Family Heritage Center and partner organizations involved in Polish Jewish heritage preservation. Through these extensive resources, participants gain an understanding of and experience with the material legacy of Poland's Jewish heritage. The Community Research Project teaches students about archival collections, how to conduct research using primary resources and the internet, how to access data and correlate documentation, how to conduct oral histories and trace historical events. These skills expand the participant's scope of knowledge and expertise, enabling Mi Dor Le Dor fellows to create new resources for the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland's educational and cultural programs and to assist as facilitators and guides in the Taube Jewish Heritage Tour program.
