The Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland is pleased to announce receipt of a grant from the Dutch Jewish Humanitarian Fund in support of its Book Publishing Project – Sefarim. The Fund’s 9,500 Euro grant ($12,500) in 2013 is matched by support from the Taube Foundation for Jewish Life & Culture and will enable the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland to expand upon its unique book publishing project.
Sefarim (books in Hebrew) furthers the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland’s mission of enriching Jewish life in Poland and connecting Jews from around the world with their East European heritage. Through supporting the publication of quality non-fiction works of Polish Jewish interest, both scholarly and popular, the project brings new perspectives on Polish Jewish history, heritage and contemporary Jewish life into the public arena and promotes national discourse.
The project’s past success, with 13 publications, is evident in the range of publications, previously awarded grants, and in the number of authors and publishers who have already expressed interest in applying during the project’s next phase. The Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland, in cooperation with its partner organizations, among them the Krakow Jewish Culture Festival, the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, and the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow, will host panel presentations and discussions with selected authors and publishers throughout the year.
Sefarim, as opposed to other grant programs that fund completed studies awaiting publication, accepts applications for works-in-progress. Applications will be reviewed by a committee chaired by Konstanty Gebert, Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland Scholar-in-Residence, on a rolling basis, with an assessment based on their originality, relevance, and potential contribution to a growing canon of literary works about Polish Jewish life.
Guidelines for applications and requirements for submission will be posted on the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland’s website on January 18. Inquiries can be made at: sefarim@centrumtaubego.org.pl.
The Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland and the Dutch Jewish Humanitarian Fund are co-publishers of the books, but draw no profit from their sales.
